Join West L.A. Democratic Club
To join or rejoin the West L.A. Democratic Club, go to www.westlademclub.org. Select Join from the menu. A new website has been designed and is just being installed in mid-January. So, if you don't reach us immediately, please try again in a day or two.
The major choices are: $25 - regular membership, $13 - regular senior citizen membership and $0 - Associate membership, which puts you on an e-mail announcements list but doesn't give you voting power or the right to participate in the club's Yahoo Group for discussions and more meeting announcements (e.g. of other groups). The West LA club doesn't have a regular newsletter or (generally) mailed announcements. It will be active in the 2012 campaigns here and nationally. We hope to have some outstanding information on its website on issues, the campaigns, other websites, etc.
WWDC Merged Into West L.A. Democratic Club
On August 2, 2010, the Westwood - Westside Democratic Club merged into the West L. A. Democratic Club. All WWDC members who paid their 2010 dues automatically became members of the West L.A. Democratic Club through the end of 2010. The names and contact information on former members has also been given to the WLADC, and you may be added to some e-mail lists.
For 2011, WLADC dues for seniors are $13 a year. Regular dues: $25. Associate membership (being on the e-mail list but not the YahooGroup) is free. There is no monthly printed newsletter, but an occasional e-Letter anounces meetings and has other content. To join, go to the WLADC website at www.westlademclub.org and look for the Join/Renew page. There have been some errors in the calendar, so confirm that meetings will actually be held before going to them.
Some of you may prefer to join or attend the events of other neighborhood clubs - e.g. Culver City or Hollywood/West Hollywood Democratic Clubs. For a full list of clubs in L.A. county, go to www.lacdp.org. If enough people want to re-establish the Westwood - Westside club, there may be an effort to do so. Contact us (see left column of home page) so that we can put you in touch with each other.

U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Rejects Mean Spirited Republican Bill Denying Women’s Access to Health Care Services
May 4, 2011Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Karen Bass spoke on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in opposition to H.R. 3, a radical anti-woman and anti-choice bill that places unprecedented restrictions on women’s access to health care. She said, “Madam Speaker, I rise in strong opposition to H.R. 3 which the House will vote on later today. After voting last month to end Medicare as we know it for seniors, today the Majority is attacking women’s reproductive freedom. “For the last 3 months we have watched as the Majority party has consistently attacked the right of women to receive comprehensive health care and today is no different. H.R. 3 has outrageous provisions that would end comprehensive private health insurance coverage and reduce women’s access to abortion care in many ways. “H.R. 3 manipulates the tax code to restrict access to comprehensive care. The bill raises taxes on individuals and small businesses with insurance plans that cover abortion, forcing them to drop their health insurance plans. “H.R. 3 is an unprecedented attempt to deny access to full reproductive care. I urge my colleagues to vote NO on this radical anti-choice bill. I yield back the balance of my time.”
